Payday 3 will release on all major platforms later in September, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This starkly contrasts Payday 2, which had a different edition for console players that eventually lacked the same updates as the PC version. With so much more focus on the console editions of the game, you might be wondering whether you can play with your friends on those platforms. Here’s whether Payday 3 will have crossplay.
Can You Play Payday 3 in Crossplay?
If you’re looking to play alongside those friends, you’re in luck! Starbreeze has confirmed that crossplay will be present in Payday 3, with players on any platform able to connect with one another simultaneously. I can also confirm this, as the recent beta for the game featured matches with people on Xbox as well. The only reason I didn’t see PlayStation players was because the beta didn’t include PlayStation.

As for how this is done, it’s done through logging into a Starbreeze account. This is how most games circumvent the incompatibility of a Steam account and an Xbox account playing together since it’s on their servers alone and nowhere else. If you haven’t created an account yet, you’ll be prompted to do so once you first launch the game. From there, the process should be mostly seamless.
Will Payday 3 Support Cross-Progression?
Thanks to the nature of the Starbreeze account, Payday 3 will also support cross-progression. This is the ability to play on one platform, transfer to another, and have your progress ready to pick up right from where you left off. It isn’t something a lot of people will use, but for the few that do, it’s a massive step in the right direction.
