Will Destiny 2 Content Transfer to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?

Simply put, yes, all of your Destiny 2 content will transfer from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Further, players won’t need to re-purchase Destiny 2 or any of its expansion to play it on next-gen consoles, as Bungie has confirmed that all purchases will transfer to next-gen. This means that players who purchase the Beyond Light expansion in September for current-gen will be able to play it for free when next-gen consoles release later this year.

Bungie has also confirmed that Destiny 2 will support cross-play between console generations within the same console families. This means that PS4 players will be able to play with those on the PS5 and Xbox One players will be able to play with those on the Series X. It’s worth noting that Bungie has not confirmed cross-play between console families at the time of writing, but it’s possible this feature could come in the future.

At the time of writing, it’s still unclear if Destiny 2 will be available on next-gen at launch, or if it’ll come later. Since there still isn’t an official release date for the Series X and PS5, we will likely learn more information on this once those dates have been revealed by Microsoft and Sony. However, with Xbox promising a Series X update every month until launch, hopefully we will learn more about this soon.

The Destiny 2 Beyond Light expansion is set to launch on September 22, 2020, and will be followed by The Witch Queen in 2021 and Lightfall in 2022. As you can see, Bungie is planning on supporting Destiny 2 for the next three years, which pretty much rules out Destiny 3 anytime soon.

Now that we know that all Destiny 2 content will transfer to next-gen and that Bungie will be supporting Destiny 2 for the next few years, it looks like the games community has a lot to look forward to.
