New method of transportation, hear me out: sword surfing

Sharpen up, Trailblazers! Though the days may move slowly to the official release of Honkai: Star Rail, Hoyoverse still drops snippets along the way in the form of Character Trailers. The star of this voyage is Yanqing of Xianzhou Luofu.

A New World, Thus a New Conflict

A popular theory being Yanqing is that he is heavily inspired by a character that already exists in one of Hoyoverse’s sister games, Honkai Impact 3rd. Sixth Disciple, Ma Feima, previously has the family name of Yanqing and shares more than a few similarities with the young man we see in Honkai: Star Rail. With the same hair color, proficiency in swords, and a vexing need to constantly spar with others, Hoyoverse is taking inspiration from previous games to build up a roster for Star Rail. It’ll be exciting to see what lore can be discovered and related between the two games.

But Yanqing of Honkai: Star Rail is unique in his own rights, already Lieutenant of the Xianzhou Luofu, a flagship under the Xianzhou Alliance. Traveling the galaxy, the aim of these ships is to eradicate the Abominations of Abundance, what we can only assume to either be a challenging faction or the enemy of the story. With quite the responsibility under his belt, Yanqing still seems to possess quite a few peculiar quirks being that of a youngster. He possesses extraordinary abilities with a sword but will willingly go and find someone to spar with. Although a genius in his own right, his style and gameplay hint at an incredibly playful style while he chuckles and strikes down his enemies with a rain of swords.

Not too much is known officially about his gameplay against enemies, but we do know that he’ll have the Elemental Affiliation of Ice and his set Path is under The Hunt. Paths are Honkai: Star Rail’s version of dictating gameplay and style when it comes to each individual character. Those who follow the Path of the Hunt are known to have extraordinary damage against single targets which can cause a flurry of critical hits in tandem.

As a five-star, Yanqing will be one of the rarer characters to aim for when it comes to Pulling with Rail Passes, but all in favor, just be sure to pull up to the station once Yanqing becomes available in Honkai: Star Rail!
