Which Shield Should You Choose in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla? – Answered

Offense is the best defense

Before a new run in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla, you need to choose which shield you want and which kind of Rage Kratos should wield. The shield itself can make a massive difference in the flow of combat, so picking the right one can go a long way.

The Best Shield for God of War Ragnarok Valhalla

For the best shield, you should pick the Dauntless Shield as the first line of defense on Kratos. Not only does it act like the normal Guardian Shield in terms of mechanics, but it’s also one of the best options in the game for additional Stun damage. However, it requires a higher ceiling of parrying intense fights.

Any time you get a successful parry with the Dauntless Shield, you can follow up with a shield bash that will do far more Stun damage at once. If you can master the way parry mechanics work in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla, you will easily be able to fill up stun bars and use a finisher for some massive damage.

Not every move can be parried, so there are still some attacks that require you to dodge unless you want to take damage. That’s the case for any shield though. The real downside lies in the need for a much better understanding of parrying in the game. If you choose to use this shield and try blocking, there’s a good chance you will take more damage or get stunned due to how weak the defense is.

As a secondary option, I would recommend the standard Guardian Shield for Kratos. It has some of the best general stats and has a great follow-up attack on successful parries. There won’t be as much stun damage to dish out but there is more versatility as you learn to make use of the parry system in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla.

While you’re in Valhalla, don’t leave any doors unlocked if you want the best loot.
