Which Rig is the Best to Get First in The Outlast Trials? – Answered

Not so big rigs. But cool rigs, nonetheless!

The Rigs in The Outlast Trials are another way to customize your character. This time, they provide you with abilities that will be of great assistance to you and your team that you can use periodically within a Trial. When you are guided to the local engineer to get your first rig, you may stop and think about which one you should pick first, because you can only grab one at the start. So, Prima Games has a list of the best rigs in the Outlast Trials (a Tier List of some sort) so that you can determine which one you should get first.

At this moment, there are four rigs that you can get in The Outlast Trials:

  1. Stun
  2. Blind
  3. Heal
  4. X-Ray

Each of them has a unique set of upgrades that can be performed (eight levels total) and of course, like in every game, there is a trade-off of using one rig over the three others (you can only use one rig during a Trial).

So, which one would be the best to take? It was a hard decision to make the choice, and I am open to changing my mind in the future.

1. X-Ray Rig

I would put X-Ray Rig on top of my personal Tier List. Built-in Wallhack will certainly help your positioning so that you can evade the enemies better, and later on, it provides shared intel, vision over important items in the Trial, and recharges your Battery for Night Vision. What’s more to ask? It’s a great utility for you and the team. At least one teammate should equip it.

2. Heal Rig

In a very close second place, I put the Heal Rig. The utility it provides is superior in terms of sustainability. When you first get it, it heals you, and your teammates that are in the proximity of the healing “cloud”. Later on, as you upgrade it, it cures Psychosis and slows down enemies that get caught in the healing cloud. This is a very, very important Rig, and at least one teammate should have it due to the scarcity of items in the Trial.

3. Stun Rig

Third place goes to the Stun Rig. I have no doubt there. It’s great, but not as great as the X-Ray and Heal Rigs. With the Stun Rig, you will be able to stun the enemy chasing you. Usually, you can outrun them and hide, but this one is a gimmick that instantly does away with the issue of being chased by the enemy. I mean, you can also hit them with a brick or an empty bottle and stun them (albeit for a much shorter time period…). However, later down the line, you will be able to recharge your (and your teammates) Stamina and Battery if they are in the Stun radius once you deploy it. That will require some coordination in the voice chat for sure.

4. Blind Rig

Fourth place is left for the Blind Rig. I feel it’s a lot of “moving parts” in there, with a lot of timing and planning needed to get it right, whereas other Rigs offer immediate solutions. I won’t deny that there are uses for the Blind Rig, but I will always choose one of the other three.
