How to Learn Chop Down

Like most of the secret techniques that you can acquire in Pokémon: Let’s Go, players will need to speak with someone to acquire this specific secret technique. In order to get the Chop Down technique, make your way through the game until you reach Vermillion City. Once in Vermillion, board the S.S. Anne and begin exploring the ship.

Climb up the stairs on the ship and you’ll have to battle against your Rival once more. From here, head inside the Captain’s Office and help the Captain ease his seasickness. In return for helping him out, the Captain will teach your Pikachu or Eevee—depending on the version of the game you have—to use Chop Down, which you can then use to destroy trees that are blocking your path.

Getting the Chop Down technique is important as you’ll need it to unblock the entrance to the Pokémon Gym in Vermillion City, as well as to explore other paths and secret areas throughout the Kanto region in Pokémon: Let’s Go. Once you have the secret technique learned, make sure you re-explore the world for any paths you might not have been able to explore earlier in the game.
