Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Open the Adamantine Chest (BG3)

A lethal game of the floor is lava

As you make your way to the Adamantine Forge, you’ll likely find that there’s no shortage of secrets. And one of these secrets is an Adamantine Chest, guarded by a Lava Elemental. But where is the chest’s key? How do you open the Adamantine Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Where is the Key to the Adamantine Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3

When it comes to lockpicking chests, I’ll admit that my team of sword-wielders and warlocks are less than proficient. And the Adamantine Chest found in the Grymforge, at the coordinates X: -629, Y: 207, is particularly stubborn. To lockpick it open, you’ll need to roll a 20.

If you don’t have the tools or the dexterity to manage that, the Adamantine Chest is one of the few locked boxes that can’t be bludgeoned open. Which means you’ll need the key! And fortunately for us, it’s not that far away.

The key is actually just a few meters away.

From the platform with the Adamantine Chest, turn your camera North. You’ll see a stone pillar with a skeleton laid out across the rocks. This skeleton is in possession of the Adamantine Key. It’s also the only skeleton worth looting. Every other bag of bones has, at best, three gold and at worst a bottle.

To get to this skeleton, you’ll need to jump across the dark platforms on the side of the rocks. Even though they’ve magma lines on them, they’re safe to jump on. I highly recommend you only use one character to do this, as the AI companions love to wander straight into the lava.

Unlocking the Adamantine Chest will net you the rare Sentient Amulet, 126 gold, a silver necklace, and a Scroll of Bestow Curse.

The Sentient Amulet will also start you off on a brand new quest, called Help the Curse Monk.

But there are more pressing matters down here in the Adamantine Forges. Like getting those furnaces working to make some powerful new armor.
