Pokemon has expanded its storytelling abilities a fair bit in recent years, with the overarching story of Scarlet and Violet reaching new heights for the franchise. However, with the newest DLC packs available now, we have a whole new story to experience, and it’s one based on a classic Japanese folklore story that involves a boy born out of a giant peach. While this may sound like it has nothing to do with the world of Pokemon, as you progress through The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, you’ll find that there is more in common than originally thought.
What Japanese Folk Story Is The Teal Mask Based On In Scarlet and Violet?
While the lands of Paldea may have been focused more on the Spanish Countryside, the new land of Kitamaki is firmly rooted in the lands of Japan. With this new location, a new story is told, and this particular bit of DLC happens to be a retelling/reimagining of the classic Japanese folk story Momotaro.
While nobody in this particular story has been born directly from a peach, the general storytelling is very reminiscent of Momotaro and the trials and tribulations he faced. The story told between our new partners and Legendary Pokemon is rather interesting, and without going into too many plot points, it weaves a story that stands tall next to the base story that was told in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
As we continue exploring the lands of Kitamari and finding new Pokemon to add to our party, like the adorable and tricky Poltchageist, be sure to check out our Pokemon S&V section below for a helpful set of guides that will help you push in the right direction.
