Vulnerable Status Effect and Damage in Diablo 4 Explained
The vulnerable status effect in Diablo 4 increases how much damage you and your enemies take. You can inflict this effect onto enemies to weaken them to attacks, but they can also do the same to you.
If you’re affected by vulnerability, your health sphere will have purple cracks in its center to indicate your weakened state. You’ll also see the word “Vulnerable” appear on your screen. Similarly, enemies affected by vulnerability will temporarily have purple life bars and take extra damage.

It’s also important to note that you are not guaranteed to receive the vulnerable status effect every time an enemy attacks you. Likewise, you won’t always inflict this ailment onto others, although all classes are capable of doing this. However, various skills will increase your odds of inflicting this status effect, with some abilities boosting your vulnerable damage. As some quick examples, you’ll find two screenshots below of barbarian and rogue skills with this status effect.
How Much Extra Damage Does Vulnerable Deal in Diablo 4?
By default, the extra damage you deal to vulnerable enemies is 20%, increasing if you have special perks, Paragon buffs and passive armor effects. You can view the exact percentage in your character profile by heading into Materials & Stats and scrolling down to “Vulnerable Damage”.
For example, the screenshot above shows that my sorceress has the base 20% stat value for vulnerable damage. However, I also have items that increase my damage while I have barriers and ones that reduce my damage taken from vulnerable enemies. With that said, it’s important to keep an eye on your Aspects and stat values on your gear too!
