Discord has long been the main chat platform for gamers. Whenever you need to assemble your friends for an online game or just hang out on a private server, Discord is always the right choice. What makes chatting especially fun is the emotes, particularly the fact that many servers can have their own custom ones and that you can even create them yourself. To make emotes, you must first know their required format and size. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is the Necessary Discord Emote Size?
Standard Discord emojis are 32×32 pixels in size, but after the last update, Custom Emojis can be up to 128×128. The file size limit is still 256kb, so take notice of this when creating animated emotes that can appear blurry or pixelated because of the compression.

How to Add Custom Emotes to Discord
Once you have created your custom emojis that fit in the format explained above, you can upload them to Discord by following the next steps:
- Start the Discord app or web version
- Go to your server
- Open Server Settings
- Navigate to the Emoji tab
- Click on upload Emoji, select the image you created, and press apply
- Now you just have to create the shortcut that will be used to get that emoji into the chat
Is Discord Free?
Discord is a completely free chat program that you can use in the web version or download the app for PC or mobile platforms. In the free version, you can also add up to 50 custom emojis to your server, but for stickers, you must get the paid Nitro boost.
Now that you know how to make custom emojis for Discord – go wild and make your server unique with your in-joke emotes and whatever else comes to mind.
