What is the Best Shield in God of War Ragnarok?

Block or parry?

The shield is nothing new to Kratos in God of War Ragnarok, but this is the first time that we get to choose the shield we use and the effects that it has. For an item that is meant for defense, we can get a ton of other great offensive benefits with the right equipment so the nine realms become even easier.

Regardless of the shield we choose for Kratos, blocking and parrying can always be pulled off at a base level. We aren’t looking for just a base level, though, and this guide will tackle which shield is truly worthy of the God of War as Ragnarok approaches.

God of War Ragnarok – What is the Best Shield?

There are five shields that players can choose from as they explore the nine realms of the Norse Gods. That may not seem like a lot on the surface, but each one has some decent perks to make them just enticing enough to pick up. We really only want one shield in God of War Ragnarok, however, and it has the least amount of defense.

The Dauntless Shield is the best option in the game due to the stun potential that it has. At a base level, the shield can do some decent stun damage just by double-tapping L1 and shield bashing. When you parry or perfectly time a parry, the effect is significantly enhanced, and stunning enemies becomes far easier when you know how to read them defensively. If you want the deadliest version of Kratos, the Dauntless Shield is your best choice in God of War Ragnarok.

Other shields, such as the Guardian or the Stone Wall, can be great for counters and overall defense. One thing is for sure, and that is they have greater standard defense than the Dauntless Shield will offer. Defense can be a huge help at the start of the game or in hard fights, but parrying-based defense will take you to a new level.
