Persona won’t be the only thing you’ll be looking forward to in the coming years, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new game that will be coming out in 2024 that brings all the style we know and love from Atlus with a brand new story. Honestly, Atlus is as busy as ever pumping out all sorts of games for us to enjoy and it won’t just be different renditions of Persona 5.
Everything You Need to Know About Metaphor: ReFantazio
Admittedly, there really isn’t a lot right now. The news of this game is slim at best and bare in all its entirety save the one official trailer Atlus released. And even that is pretty slim pickings when it comes to trying to figure out where they are going with this narrative. So breaking down this one-minute and 45-second video, let’s look at some of the things we can look forward to in part and theorize the rest!
The gameplay looks to celebrate your classic RPG style by implementing different types of characters based on your original expected members in battle such as Warrior, Knight, Thief, although your main character is only known as the Seeker. There are plenty of characters that are seen making bonds with the Traveling Boy we see in the trailer, so it could open the way to introducing other types of characters such as Tanks, Healers or Mages. True to Persona themes, there are not only some gnarly looking monsters you’ll be battling but also a strange phenomenon that occurs within the main party. Glowing markings will appear on their faces and seem to imbue them with stronger attacks. We’re sure to see more once we get closer to 2024, but for now, we can only speculate.
The world of Metaphor: ReFantazio is a mix of both modern society and fantasy, where the game explores the topic “our everyday world being their Utopia.” With our protagonist, we may be able to traverse through both types of worlds as it is seen in the trailer that we get to explore a city street with tall housing units and then we are also seen battling fearsome monsters that certainly don’t belong in my neck of the woods, but I’ve also seen turkeys and armadillos in the fall so who’s to say.
The last thing we see is what we may see is Metaphor: ReFantazio’s rendition of Personas as the trailer ends with the glowing marks on the Traveling Protagonist’s face then forms a knight’s helmet. The glowing sigils may not just be power-ups to our characters but might seek more evolutions in the future.
The game is going to be featured on everything except for my Apple Watch since the Official Metaphor: ReFantazio website states that it’ll be on PlayStation 4/ 5, Xbox Series X/S, and available through download for your PC either through Steam or through the Atlus website for Windows.
