There is a little-known audio setting for PC players that has been used in Warzone 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for nearly one month now, but the secret is out. After the first day of the CDL Major II, SlasheR was one COD pro among others that brought some light to loudness equalization.
In response to a question about the use of loudness equalization, SlasheR claimed that if other players were using the broken setting online, then he would too. It’s not allowed at the Major II in Boston for the LAN tournament, and it will likely be GA’d, but that doesn’t mean the average player can’t use it themselves.
COD Modern Warfare 2 – What is Loudness Equalization and How to Use it
Now that the cat is out of the bag, there’s no going back. Players will begin to use loudness equalization in MW2 and you might as well know how to as well. If you’re on a PC, open up your sound settings and head to the playback options until you find which device you’re using for audio.
Select the device that you’re using and open up the properties with a right click. Under properties, you’ll find the enhancements option that has a few different selections. Here is where you can select loudness equalization. It’s a setting for PC players only because it’s an enhancement on the system itself, not through Modern Warfare 2.

This enhancement will come at the cost of some issues with directional audio in a few cases and weird audio with your own weapons. However, you will absolutely be able to hear enemy players to a much higher degree. Footsteps were already bad enough, but they may have become more of a problem with this reveal.
