Fatshark hasn’t done a lot of explaining for perks and traits in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. There’s a reason so many people out there are wondering about what different weapon stats mean, what Unyielding and Carapaced enemies are, and what half the weapon traits and trying to tell you. Speaking of weapon traits, one particular trait that shows up on some Lasguns has been giving people some confusion on how it works. Here’s what a Salvo is in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
Salvos in Darktide Explained
As said above, you’ll have noticed this word shows up on some of the weapon traits for Lasguns including Opening Salvo and Sustained Fire. For one example, Sustained Fire reads, “+10% Damage on Second and Third shots in a Salvo.” At first, this might seem like it has to do with a grenade launcher ability for Lasguns you’re unaware of, but that doesn’t exist.
Instead, Salvos are referring to a continuous fire from any of your Lasguns. If you’re spam firing something like the Recon Lasgun, then this is considered a Salvo. This makes the traits with Salvo perks quite useful on weapons such as the Helbore and Infantry Lasguns, but terrible on the Recon Lasguns we just mentioned. This is because, with their massive magazines, a few shots in something like an 86-round mag isn’t going to do you much in the long run. This is especially true when considering the Recon Lasgun has incredibly low damage per bullet with its increased fire rate.

For Helbore and especially Infantry Lasguns, these perks can provide some healthy bonuses when used correctly. Salvos will generally reset after not firing the weapon for a second or so, so if you can fire a few shots and then stop for a moment, you might get some use out of it while saving a few precious bullets. You’d be surprised just how much something like 10% increased damage can do.
