TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge – Classic Edition and Radical Edition Differences Explained

Can you tell the difference, or is it all so loud and colorful your brain melts just looking at it all?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge comes out this week, and Limited Run Games is taking preorders for physical copies. As is usually the case for these kinds of things, there are two special editions available offering different ranges of goodies: the Radical and Classic Editions. As a potential consumer and a limited time to get on board, you may be wondering what the differences are. Thus, this article you’re reading. Check out the TMNT deets, hypothetical reader in my mind.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Classic Edition

For $64.99, you can get the Classic Edition, which comes in a box designed after a classic TMNT cartoon VHS tape. Some of you probably have no idea what that means or how to picture that. I see the colorful “l.r.g.” in the bottom corner and vivid memories replay in my thoughts. We are not the same. Anyway, here’s what comes inside, per the store listing:

  • Physical Copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for [platform] with reversible cover
  • Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge G2 Blu-Ray Sized SteelBook
  • Art Booklet (Inside the Standard Game Case)
  • Retro VHS Sleeve With VHS Tape Box (sized to store the game and SteelBook)
  • Sprite Stickers
  • Free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza Coupon

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Radical Edition

This is the big one. For a whopping $200, you get a ton of stuff on top of what you’d already get for buying the Classic Edition. There are some truly wild physical items in this set, for example a replica arcade cabinet (that plays the game’s trailer!), an action figure blister pack-style enclosure for the game itself (that has easy access so you don’t have to rip it open), and an actual action figure for good measure. The complete list of stuff is here, once again per the store listing:

  • Physical Copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for the [platform] with Reversible Cover and Blister Boxed Action Figure Style Packaging
  • The game’s blister box packaging includes trap door on back for easy removal of the game without damaging the card!
  • Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge G2 Blu-ray Sized SteelBook
  • Deluxe Playset Style Box (art to be shown later) With Slipcover
  • Mini Arcade Cabinet Replica/ Movie Viewer, Plays the Game’s Trailer, Plays Video and Sound Only
  • Physical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Soundtrack CD
  • Art Booklet (Inside the Standard Game Case)
  • Retro VHS Sleeve With VHS Tape Box (sized to store the game and SteelBook)
  • Full Length Strategy Guide
  • 18″ x 24″ Poster
  • 3D Shadow Box
  • Exclusive reissue of the original retro Shredder action figure with cartoon-accurate colors from Playmates
  • Sprite Stickers
  • Free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza Coupon

That’s a lot of retro-themed merchandise. It’s hard to even process, visually. Unfortunately, we aren’t involved with the guide this time, but hey that lets me cover this without worrying about a conflict of interest.

Preorders for both the Classic and Radical Editions are open now, and not in limited supply. However there is a time limit, and TMNT sickos have until July 24 to decide if they want to take the plunge or not. It takes quite a while for Limited Run Games products to ship, so in the meantime, the actual Shredder’s Revenge game launches on June 16.
