The Callisto Protocol Difficulty Options Explained

Which security level will you choose in The Callisto Protocol?

The Callisto Protocol has officially launched, providing its sci-fi/survival horror gamers with three difficulty settings to choose from, with more reportedly arriving as downloadable content in 2023. On brand with its futuristic, moon-prison setting, the three difficulty options in The Callisto Protocol are Minimum Security, Medium Security, and Maximum Security. While the game provides very little information on the difficulty settings other than their names, my multiple playthroughs of The Callisto Protocol since launch has given me insight into the differences between each of the three settings. This guide will demonstrate the differences between the three difficulty levels of The Callisto Protocol, to help you determine which option suits your gaming needs best.

Minimum Security Difficulty in The Callisto Protocol

Minimum Security is the easiest difficulty in The Callisto Protocol, enemies are weaker, taking more damage than on higher difficulties, and dishing out less. Resources, such as Callisto Credits, ammo, health injectors, GRP battery packs, and sellable items are plentiful. If you are seeking to enjoy the story of The Callisto Protocol without much of a challenge, then Minimum Security is the right choice for you.

Medium Security Difficulty in The Callisto Protocol

Medium Security is the “normal difficulty” of The Callisto Protocol, providing the standard, baseline game experience. Like many other titles, the middle option of The Callisto Protocol’s difficulty balances story and challenge, leveling the playing field between the protagonist, Jacob Lee, and the many biophages that hunt him throughout Black Iron Prison during the campaign of The Callisto Protocol. Callisto Credits ammo, health injectors, GRP battery packs, and sellable items are less available than on Minimum Security difficulty.

Maximum Security Difficulty in The Callisto Protocol

As of the game’s launch, Maximum Security is the hardest difficulty setting in The Callisto Protocol, providing the greatest challenge to those brave enough to attempt it. Callisto Credits, ammo, health injectors, GRP battery packs, and sellable items are scarce. Enemies are much more difficult to kill and hit like freight trains, doing significantly more damage to Jacob than on the lower difficulties, turning each encounter into a life or death struggle. This is a difficulty best suited for survival horror veterans or those seeking a challenge.
