Tears of the Kingdom: How to Shoot the Bow in Slow Motion

Slow motion arrow time!

Remember the first footage from Breath of the Wild, back in 2014, with Link jumping from horseback into the air and firing an arrow from his bow in slow motion? Although completely doable in the game as well as in the sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, many players rarely use this technique.

Slowing down time certainly adds a few more seconds that can be used to improve the aim, which can be of great importance in critical situations when additional precision is needed. So, let’s find out how to slow the time when shooting the bow in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

So, to initiate the slowdown while shooting from the bow, Link needs to be in mid-air. Sadly you can’t just jump in place and pull out your bow mid-jump since Link doesn’t jump that high when jumping from a standing position. For slow-motion to kick in you will need more elevation, it can be higher ground from which you jump, a log, box, horse, or anything else that will make Link be in a state of free fall after the jump for a second or two.

While in the air press the ZR button to pull out your bow and shoot in slow motion. You can aim with the analog stick or even use the motion controls – if you are playing in portable mode, to fine-tune your aim for additional precision. The slowdown effect will last until Link touches the ground again, which gives you plenty of time to aim accurately and even change the materials you can add to the arrows.
