Tapu Koko Raid Guide for Pokemon GO: Weaknesses and Counters

Tapu Koko arrived in Pokemon GO 5-Star Raids on January 25 at 10:00 a.m. local time and will be taking on challengers until February 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time. That doesn’t give us much time to beat down this island deity, but with this guide, you can close the gap. Here’s everything you need to know to come out on top.

And yes, Tapu Koko can be Shiny in Pokemon GO!

You’ll need three total people to take on this 5-Star Raid boss, but the more people, the better! Once you’ve collected your friends, family, or the nearest strangers, you can start choosing your Pokemon. These Pokemon should include Tapu Koko’s most significant weaknesses… which are few, as Tapu Koko is an Electric Fairy Type.

Those weaknesses are:

  • Poison (x2)
  • Ground (x2)

… Yep! That’s it. That makes finding the ideal counter to it pretty difficult, and Tapu Koko also has a few moves that provide it decent coverage. Those moves are:

Tapu Koko’s Move Pool is:

Fast Attacks:

  • Volt Switch (Electric)
  • Quick Attack (Normal)

Charged Moves:

  • Thunder (Electric)
  • Thunderbolt (Electric)
  • Brave Bird (Flying)
  • Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)

Despite its limited weaknesses, it is possible to counter it. Here are the best Pokemon for the job:

  • Mamoswine with Mud-Slap and High Horsepower
  • Mega Gengar with Lick and Sludge Bomb
  • Mega Beedrill with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap ad Drill Run
  • Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Shadow Muk with Poison Jab and Gunk Shot

The chosen Pokemon above gets less effective the lower they are on the list. But not every trainer has a Mega Evolved Pokemon or a Pokemon with Legacy or Exclusive moves. So, more accessible Pokemon were added.

Good luck, trainer!
