Unlike Super Mario 64 where the number of collectible stars is relatively straightforward, there’s an added bonus to collecting all of the stars in Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars: How Many Stars in Super Mario Galaxy

In total, there are 121 collectible stars in Super Mario Galaxy, though you’ll only need to collect 60 of these in order to complete the game.

What sets Super Mario Galaxy apart from other games in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection is the fact that you can earn something special for collecting all of the stars in Super Mario Galaxy… Luigi as a playable character.

Once you’ve collected all of the stars (and beat Bowser again), you’ll be notified that Luigi is available as a playable character.

While playing as Luigi, you have the opportunity to collect the game’s 121 stars all over again in Super Mario Galaxy.

If you’re a completionist, you’re looking at 242 collectible stars in Super Mario Galaxy, 121 as Mario, and 121 as Luigi.

If you don’t have the time or patience to do that, you can collect the minimum 60 stars to reach the end of the game.

Additionally, there are two other games included in Super Mario 3D All-Stars for you to play including Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

If you want to get to each of these games as quickly as possible, picking up the minimum star count is an option. Plus, you can always go back and collect any of the stars you’ve missed later on!
