Should You Destroy the Thunderfang in Rogue Trader?

The Thunderfang is found during Chapter 1, within the Rykad system of the Koronus Expanse in Rogue Trader. It will be listed as an Unidentified Vessel, though interacting with it will lead to a conversation with a group of looters part of the Fellowship of the Void faction. At this point, you need to decide whether to let them live or order your Voidship to destroy the vessel.

No, you should not destroy the Thunderfang. While there are no consequences for destroying the ship, you should still spare the Thunderfang so that you can trade with them during Chapter 1. While you won’t have much Profit Factor as of yet, the offerings are still plenty nice.

Warning:

The following contains spoilers for the end of Chapter 1. Don’t read past this point until you’ve finished the Chapter.

Why You Should Spare the Rogue Trader Thunderfang

To gain valuable gear in the early levels, you need to spare the Thunderfang. When interacting with the Thunderfang, opt for diplomatic dialogue options, specifically choosing the line, “Thunderfang, prepare for commercial exchange.”

Thunderfang Trading Options

Choosing that line opens the trading menu, allowing you to use Profit points for purchasing useful items:

  1. Flamer, a potent area fire attack weapon recommended for your Argenta.
  2. Medikits for healing.
  3. Melta Charges for stubborn doors.

The Thunderfang offers various combat trade goods, including armor and miscellaneous gear. Remember to revisit the Thunderfang whenever it’s nearby, as trading opportunities cease after Chapter I.

At the end of Chapter I, you will lose complete access to the Rykad system. However, that doesn’t completely lock you out of trading with the Fellowship of the Void. Within Chapter 2’s system, you’ll find another Fellowship of the Void trader on the settlement of Footfall. To reach them, head to Martyr’s Endurance and explore the halls until you come across a woman named Ryzza. Speaking with her will let you trade with the faction again.
