During the Brave Adventurer story mission in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you will have the chance to go on an adventure as young Lara Croft. Aside from learning new details about Lara’s past, your goal in this section is to solve the White Queen puzzle, which involves inputting coordinates on a globe and rearranging knight statues to find the White Queen. If you’re stuck on this puzzle, don’t worry. We’ll explain exactly what you need to do to solve the White Queen puzzle and be on your way in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
How to Solve the White Queen Puzzle
This puzzle begins as Lara enters the main study hall in Croft Manor. Upon entering, she brings out a hand-drawn map with the first clue you’ll need for solving the White Queen puzzle.
Step 1: Input the Coordinates on the Globe
The drawing contains the following coordinates: 30 N and 90 E. Your first task is to input these coordinates onto the golden globe on the far side of the study.
The globe has two handles, one for latitude and one for longitude. Turning the cranks will cause different numbers to line up within the dial at the center. Turn each crank so that the dial reads 30 N and 90 E. Doing so will cause the room to darken and a ladder to fall on the far side of the room.
Step 2: Open the Bat’s Wings
Suspended from the ceiling is a large bat-shaped contraption. Climb up the newly dropped ladder and run to the other side of the mezzanine to find a crank that controls the bat’s wings.
Interact with the crank to open the bat’s wings, causing two spotlights to shine down onto the bottom floor where a series of knight statues are arranged. This should give you an idea of where to go next.
Step 3: Reposition the Knight Statues
If you stopped to look at the painting on the side of the room, you may have noticed that it was a clue for how to arrange the statues on the floor. The goal is to move the two knight statues who are holding the large shields into each of the bat’s spotlights. It doesn’t really matter when you do this step, so long as the knights are in the correct positions when the light beams shine on them.
You should be able to reposition the knights rather easily if you fiddle around with the statues long enough. Regardless, here’s what we did if you want specific steps:
- Start by facing the knight statues with your back toward the main ladder.
- Drag the knight on the bottom right of the innermost square all the way to the left, up one, then left again.
- Push the knight on the middle-right side of the outer square up to the top right corner.
- Pull the knight on the middle-right side of the inner square one node to the right, then down to the bottom right corner.
- Move the knight in the middle-top side of the inner square (closest to both shield knights) one node right, one node down, then right again.
Now all that’s left is to pull the two shield-carrying knight statues into each of the spotlights. Pull the shielded knight on the left straight down into the left spotlight, then pull the second shielded knight down, right, then down into the other spotlight.
Step 4: Free the White Queen
Pushing the shielded knight statues into the spotlights will reveal the White Queen behind the ladder. Now all you have to do is bring her forward into position between the shielded knights.
Start by heading back over to the globe and rotating one of the cranks in any direction to move it off of the coordinates from earlier. This will lift the ladder and free up the queen’s path.
Bring out the White Queen and position her between the two shielded knights to complete the puzzle. Proceed through the newly opened door to discover new details about Lara’s story.
