Equipment is incredibly important for all three game modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play, and you will see plenty of it being thrown in each match. Due to restrictions, the Semtex and the Frag Grenade are the only two you can choose from, both of which have different uses.

While both options are great to use in MW2 Ranked Play, there are certain times when a Semtex is better than a Frag, and vice versa. Your choice matters, and in this COD Modern Warfare 2 guide, we are going to outline which one is the best depending on the game mode you are playing.

COD MW2 Ranked Play – Is the Semtex or Frag Better?

In terms of versatility, the Frag Grenade is always the better option. However, that only really applies to a mode like Search & Destroy. We have far more time to use angles and cook our grenades to flush enemies out. Frags can also go much farther than a Semtex, which allows for cross-map grenades to zone out the enemy as a round begins.

Respawn modes like Hardpoint and Control are where the story starts to change. In Ranked Play Hardpoint, you do not have time to cook grenades and aim for angles. even if you do, Trophy Systems will likely destroy them anyway. Semtex is certainly the way to go for the speed at which they blow up and the ability to stick to exactly where we’re aiming.
