RuneScape: How to Obtain the Black Party Hat

It's black, and it's phat. It's the Black Party Hat.

Where were you when RuneScape released the original Party Hats back in Christmas of 2001? If you weren’t born, don’t answer that. Jagex is releasing the first Christmas release Party Hat since 2001, and new and veteran players alike have equal opportunity to obtain it, but how?

How to Get the Black Party Hat in RuneScape

I know that obtaining the Black Party Hat is the priority of almost everyone who is actively participating in the RuneScape Christmas Event in 2023. It’s exciting to have a new Christmas-specific Party Hat, as the last time it happened, most of us ranged from youth to non-existent. But look, I’ve got good news and bad news for anyone looking to crown themselves with the Black Party Hat.

The Good
Anyone has an equal opportunity to obtain a Black Party Hat for themselves. It is a very rare event item that is not being locked behind a pay-to-win, or FOMO model. There’s no needless grinding to try and earn it. You only need to play a short period each day to earn a Nice Point, which will give you a chance to obtain it.

The Bad
Jagex themselves have stated that The Black Party Hat will be incredibly rare. So, while players will be able to potentially obtain it without wasting away during an extreme grind, the chances that you will still obtain it are incredibly low. Undoubtedly, it will be priced out of reach for the average player on the Grand Exchange by resellers.

So, basically, you need to collect your Nice Points daily and then get lucky.

How to Get Nice Points in RuneScape’s 2023 Christmas Event

Thankfully, obtaining your daily Nice Point is quite simple. All you have to do is send three Letters to Santa every day. You will be able to find all three using the below methods.

  1. Speak to Clementine. The Snow Imp is located just outside of The Lodge.
  2. Complete your Daily Challenges.
  3. Participate in the Christmas activities in the area e.g. Ice Fishing.

Depending on your Daily Challenges, you can quickly complete the above. On the first day, it took me around twenty minutes to do all of the above, and I was playing casually. Once you have, simply mail the letters in the letter box next to Clementine.

Tip:

If you miss out on obtaining Letters to Santa, you can go to the Christmas Spirit Shop and exchange 400 Christmas Spirit to buy one, which you can then post. This way you don’t miss out regardless of schedule, and real-life priorities.

Black Party Hat Weekly Giveaway Time in RuneScape

Every Sunday for the duration of the event, Santa will arrive at The Lodge between 8 PM and 10 PM RuneScape time. There will be a 30-minute timer prior to let players know of the jolly man’s impending arrival. Interact with Santa, and he will reward you with a gift in exchange for your Nice Points, and in doing so, you will potentially be rewarded with a Black Party Hat.

It’s an exciting raffle of sorts. Don’t worry if you cannot make it during the two-hour window. Santa will leave, but you can obtain your reward by interacting with Santa’s Sledge, which is next to The Lodge. So, make sure that you check when you can after Sunday evening, as you may be the lucky winner! I, for one, will be there with bells on, making the trek from the Ice Fishing location to The Lodge to see if Santa has deemed me worthy of this fashion-forward item.

Whilst the Black Party Hat is undoubtedly the highlight of the 2023 Christmas event in RuneScape, it is far from the only reward on offer. There are new items for 2023 and a snow load of legacy Christmas rewards that you can obtain by earning Christmas Spirit, so get festive, and good luck!
