Reasons to Not Use Gloom Weapons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

The Gloom weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are some of the highest-rated weapons you can get in the game. Despite its luring attacking attributes, there are still more reasons that stand against using these weapons than in favor of using them.

In this write-up, I’ll be discussing these factors as to why you shouldn’t use Gloom weapons while searching for Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom and what you should do instead for cooler, stronger, and more durable weapons. 

In TOTK Gloom Weapons Take Lives & Break Your Heart

The most important reason why you shouldn’t use any of the Gloom weapons dropped by defeated enemies is that they take your health and leave you with broken hearts that can only be mended by visiting the surface, visiting one of the Lightroots below in the Depths, or eating heart restoring meals. 

This, in essence, will require you to either stay on the surface or have lots of food materials and meals to recover from the hearts lost and broken. That alone sounds like too much work when you already have so many main and side quests to worry about in the game. Yes, it doesn’t break enough hearts to fully deplete your health, but it’s not a smart suggestion to be running around with weapons that will hand you a disadvantage in a battle. 

Gloom Weapons You Can Get in Tears of the Kingdom

• Gloom Sword (40 Attach Power),
• Gloom Spear (40 Attach Power),
• Gloom Club (50 Attach Power), and
• Demon King’s Bow (30 Attach Power).

Gloom Weapons Have Low Durability in TOTK

The next reason is how quickly these weapons from the underworld break. They do not last long when used, and at best will last for one Lizafol or Moblin. This reason will see you run through all of your weapons rapidly. It’s why I highly recommend staying away from these underworld widowmakers. 

Fuse Materials With Weapons For Stronger Durability in TOTK

If you fuse any of your weapons with monster parts or other natural materials, their attacking attributes and durability will increase. Sometimes significantly, other times, not so much. It’s important to keep this in mind when you’re taking on one of the big bosses and are stuck with an inventory full of Gloom weapons. I doubt you’ll be able to kill a Hinox or Cleeok wielding Gloom weapons.

Where Do You Find Gloom Weapons?

All of the Gloom weapons I’ve picked up in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are found at the Hyrule Castle Sanctum. After taking on Phantom Ganon and defeating him at the castle while playing through the Regional Phenomena main quest, I started finding Gloom Spears and Gloom Swords all around the castle.

Below, the images display exactly where Gloom weapons can be found. There are other locations, but I have personally not explored any of the caves suggested by other Legend of Zelda players.
