Pokemon Indigo Disk: How to Get and Beat Virizion in Scarlet & Violet

Of the three vaguely dog-like Legendary Pokemon, Virizon was the one I found the hardest to pin down. Here’s how to find Virizon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk.

First, for Virizion to even appear in your game, you must complete the Indigo Disk, get the credits, and speak to Snacksworth. Snacksworth will be in the Blueberry Academy Entrance and he’ll gift you a Legendary Treat for every 10 BBQ’s you complete. Each treat will cause its associated legendary to spawn somewhere in Paldea.

I turned in 40 BBQs to get Virizion.

Along with the treat, Snacksworth will also give you a hint about where Virizion is. But Virizion’s treat is exceptionally vague. We only know that Snacksworth found Virizion “resting in trees”, and the trees were in a “mysterious pattern”. Fortunately, I’ve stared at a lot of trees, so you don’t have to. Here’s Virizion’s precise location.

Virizion is in Tagtree Thicket, so head to the East Province (Area Three) waypoint. Turns out those “mysterious patterns” on the tree doesn’t refer to how the trees were planted but to the paint on the trunks. Anyway.

Once you’re in Tagtree Thicket, cross the north river and continue Northeast. You’ll want to follow the rock wall until you see Virizion in the North corner, below the ledge.

How to Beat Virizon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk

Despite its placid appearance, Virizion packs quite a punch. When you encounter it, it will be level 70 and have Grass- and Fighting-Typing.

That means that Flying attacks are ultra-effective, and Fairy, Fire, Ice, and Psychic attacks are super effective.

Virizion’s moves are as follows:

  • Swords Dance
  • Sacred Sword
  • Leaf Blade
  • Close Combat

So, at the start of the fight, Virizion’s not that difficult to contend with. What makes this fight difficult is that it will continuously increase its attack and eventually Sacred Sword will hit hard. To that end, I highly recommend a Ghost-Pokemon, who will trivialize Sacred Sword and Close Combat.

Trevenant isn’t a bad choice, as it will also take reduced damage from Leaf Blade, letting you saw away at Virizion’s casually without stress.
