Pokemon GO Mountain Cup GL – Best Picks and Moves

You can reach the top of the mountain, even if you're only half way up.

At the same time as the Let’s GO! event in Pokemon GO, Trainers will get to try out the Mountain Cup in the PvP Battle League as part of the Great League this time around. Like so many other specialized cups that appear alongside events, there are rules to follow and a new set of best picks for the meta.

While events like the Mountain Cup may not last long in the game, they offer up a chance to utilize some new Pokemon that wouldn’t be viable in standard leagues. Recurring cups tend to include some additional bans as well, allowing for a fresh cup each time. This guide will cover some of the best options possible for your team in the GO Battle League.

Best Picks for the Mountain Cup GL Edition in Pokemon GO

The rules for the mountain-themed PvP event are fairly simple this time. For starters, all Pokemon must be at 1,500 CP or less, which is standard for the Great League. All picks must be Ground, Ice, Rock, or Stell-types as well, which is where the mountain theme comes in. The only ban is for Swampert. Everything else with those types is fair game and we’ll cover ten of the best picks with their moves below.

Mountain Cup Best Picks:

  • Scrafty – Counter (Fast) and Foul Play / Power-Up Punch (Charged)
  • Medicham XL – Counter (Fast) and Psychic / Ice Punch (Charged)
  • Galarian Stunfisk – Mud Shot (Fast) and Rock Slide / Earthquake (Charged)
  • Registeel – Lock On (Fast) and Focus Blast / Zap Cannon (Charged)
  • Noctowl – Wing Attack (Fast) and Sky Attack / Shadow Ball (Charged)
  • Trevenant – Shadow Claw (Fast) and Seed Bomb / Shadow Ball (Charged)
  • Bastiodon XL – Smack Down (Fast) and Stone Edge / Flamethrower (Charged)
  • Altaria – Dragon Breath (Fast) and Moonblast / Sky Attack (Charged)
  • Pelipper – Wing Attack (Fast) and Water Weather Ball / Hurricane (Charged)
  • Dubwool – Double Kick (Fast) and Body Slam and Payback (Charged)

Keep in mind that you’ll still need to keep the team balanced with each Pokemon that you select. It’s important to have roles like a lead that can burn shields as the battle starts, a flex pick, and a closer with some defense that can soak up massive nukes in the Pokemon GO Battle League.
