When you first start out in Pokemon Go you can choose between Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur as your starting Pokemon, but with a little extra effort you can start with Pikachu instead. The starting trio is a call back to the original Pokemon Red and Blue games for the Game Boy. The additional of Pikachu is a nice Easter Egg that calls back to Pokemon Yellow, which not only allowed you to select Pikachu as your starting Pokemon, but also have him follow you around for the entire game.

Once Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur appear on your screen in Pokemon Go, continue walking to clear them away. You may have to walk a little ways to do this, but keep moving and the trio will eventually go away. If you can make them disappear three times, Pikachu will join them on the fourth attempt to get you to select a starting Pokemon.
