The dilemma between living a sad truth or a happy lie

How to Get Persona 5 Royal’s True Ending

The truth is that if you’re not really looking to get this ending, it’s really easy to end up watching the story end the same way it did in the original Persona 5. Royal added a third semester, a part of the story where you can only play with Kasumi and Akechi. And it is definitely worth playing; it’s what makes Persona 5 Royal stand out, after all.

To unlock this third semester, here’s all the things you absolutely need to do:

  • Level up Maruki’s Takuto Maruki’s confidant rank up to 9 before the calendar reaches November 18.
  • Level up Goro Akechi’s confidant rank up to 8 before the calendar reaches November 24.
  • Level up Kasumi Yoshizawa’s confidant rank up to 5 before the calendar reaches December 18.
  • Deny all offers made by antagonists.

Maruki’s confidant rank is relatively easy to achieve, as it has no requirements you need to fill, but it is also the one with the sooner deadline, so don’t rest on your laurels. Kasumi’s rank also doesn’t need Joker to do or be anything special, but she doesn’t show up much, so pay attention to her when she does.

On the other hand, Akechi, as the charming detective prince he is, will need Joker to have high charm and knowledge at some point, so make sure you’re raising those stats, too.

These are the requirements only to unlock the third semester. To get the true ending, you must also max all three characters’ confidant ranks. Maruki’s will happen automatically, but you must make Akechi’s and Kasumi’s happen by yourself. To get to this point, you must have denied Sae’s offer on Christmas Eve, but Maruki himself will make his very own offer on February 2. Do not accept this offer, or you will see a completely different ending.

If you’ve done it correctly, you’re ready to witness the story’s true ending. You will get an extra scene if you maxed out Kasumi’s confidant, which is very emotional. Whether it’s “the best” or not, it’s up to you to decide.
