After completing Palia’s tutorial, speak to Einar in Fisherman’s Lagoon to get a fishing rod and unlock fishing. Once you do this, cast your line to any fishing circle, wait for a fish to catch on to your line, and hold your left mouse button down while the fish is in your green cast circle. The fish will slowly approach you, and once it reaches you, you’ll successfully catch the fish and place it into your inventory.

It may even be a gold star or an epic fish if you’re lucky! Sometimes, you may also find a waterlogged chest with valuable rewards. However, you’ll have to equip some bait to catch rarer fish, which you can do by right-clicking while holding your rod and choosing some bait.

While fishing, the fish will attempt to trick you before you even try the minigame. After tossing your bobber into a fishing circle, the fish will nibble at the line a few times before spinning around quickly, signaling that you’re ready to reel it in. From here, it’s just a matter of lining up your green circle with the fish, and moving it around once it swims out of your range. If you try to reel it in while it’s out of your circle, your line might snap, leaving the fish to swim away forever.
