People have been reporting a strange, human-eating ooze in the southern reaches of Rosaria. And that can only mean one thing – there’s a Notorious Mark that needs cutting down. Here’s how to find the Muddy Murder hunt location and all the rewards you’ll get for killing it in Final Fantasy 16.
Muddy Murder Hunt Location & Rewards in Final Fantasy 16 (FFXVI)
As you might have guessed from the Hunt Board description, this pile of opalescent ooze isn’t just a pile of sludge. It’s a Flan, and it’s quite a vicious monster, especially when it first unlocks on the Hunt Board. As a Rank-A Mark, it will be level 38 when you first encounter it. But it’s very possible to bring it down at early levels. I took it down at level 32.
To find Muddy Murder, head to The Auldhyl Docks on the World Map.
From there, you’ll want to head east, outside of town. Continue straight, and it’s possible you’ll see a puddle on the ground at the end of the trail. I didn’t, but if you get close enough to the marked area, the cutscene for Muddy Murder will play.
Muddy Murder, or Prince Flan, is a monster that relies on a combination of magical attacks. These include Aeroga, Stonega, and Blizzaga. Prince Flan also relies heavily on physical attacks, where it wraps its hands around its body. Once you see it do this, back away. It’s about to unleash a slapping tornado, which is much harder to dodge.
While many of Muddy Murder’s attacks hit hard, its stamina and health are low. Keep dodging and whittling away at its health and it’ll eventually melt into a pile of goo.

Rewards for Defeating Muddy Murder (Prince Flan) in Final Fantasy 16
Upon defeating Muddy Murder (Prince Flan), you’ll receive the following rewards:
- Gelatinous Mass (exclusive crafting material)
- 5,200 Experience
- 95 Ability Points
- 12,000 Gold
- 30 Renown
