Microsoft and Sony Reach Call of Duty Deal

Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation consoles.

Microsoft and its acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been a hot topic on everyone’s radar. Whether you are for or against the acquisition, the outcome has many ramifications for the gaming industry in its entirety. One of the issues is that of video game exclusivity; especially for titles that have long been multiplatform. In the case of Call of Duty, Microsoft and Sony have reached a deal.

Call of Duty Will Remain on PlayStation Consoles

Phil Spencer announced via Twitter that Microsoft and PlayStation had signed a binding agreement that would keep the Call of Duty franchise on PlayStation consoles after the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

PlayStation Call of Duty players can finally breathe a sigh of relief after anxiously waiting for this announcement after the acquisition was announced back in January 2022. It isn’t quite clear yet what the exact terms of this deal will be. PlayStation did originally refuse a ten-year deal. So, it will be interesting to see what the exact terms of this deal are when they become available to the public.

With the Call of Duty battle now ended as well as Microsoft winning against a federal district court and US appeals court refusal to block the acquisition, it seems inevitable that this merger will shake up the industry. Whether or not that is a positive or negative thing depends on what side of the fence you fall on. There can only be speculation as to how until the terms of the deal are released and we can see if there are time limits to the deals or not.
