Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: How Will The Skill Tree Work?

How will the upgrade system work for both Spider-Man Characters and Venom?

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay trailer answered many questions about what we can expect when the game releases in October. One question it didn’t cover is how the upgrade system or skill tree will work this time around. Thankfully, Insomniac Games’ Senior Community Manager, Aaron Jason Espinoza, touched on the subject and confirmed what type of skill tree players will get in the next installment of Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Let’s find out what the Senior Community Manager had to say.

How Will Marve’s Spider-Man 2’s Skill Tree Work?

It was revealed that there will be three skill trees in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one for each character and a shared skill tree for Peter Parker and Miles Morales. It further states that the web-slinging heroes share technology and train together, giving further reasons behind the shared skill tree and upgrading system.

In the gameplay trailer, you can see that players will be able to instantly switch between the roles of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. A portion of the trailer also shows Peter already succumbing to the symbiote.

Previously, we could only play with one character, first Peter Parker in Spider-Man and then Miles Morales in the spin-off and continuation, Spider-Man: Miles Morales. At the start of Miles Morales, where Miles and Pete Take on Aleksei Sytsevich, aka Rhino, you swap between the two characters trying to bring him to a stop following a failed transportation attempt. This was a fantastic start to an action game, but unfortunately, we only got a small taste of what it would be like to play with both Spideys and choose between the two.

Will You Only Get One Skill Point For Leveling Up in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

With three skill trees, I hope we get more than one skill point per upgrade. Hopefully, Insomniac will introduce a new upgrade system, seeing that each playable character will have to be upgraded. I hope the rewards in the game come earlier and more frequently.

If they do change the skill point system, it could also mean more side missions and collectibles to find in this one. It would be disheartening if they were to only award one skill point for each time you leveled up.

Will Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Use Your Saved Progress?

It has not yet been confirmed whether your saved progress will or will not be transferred from previous Spider-Man titles to Spider-Man 2. It would be a great feature if you had played both Marvel’s Spider-Man games and your saved data, such as gadgets, suits, and skills, were carried over to Spider-Man 2. It would be sad to see us players spend time and skill points trying to acquire the same skills and gadgets.

It was confirmed, however, that both Spider-Man characters will have new gadgets and moves to learn. This was evident during the gameplay trailer, where you saw Miles’s powers and abilities at work. I would like to use the suits from the previous titles.

This is not to say I’m against new suits, but a mixture of the old and new would be great to see. And it would give you some good options at the start of the game. For more on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, you can read: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: All Pre-Order Editions Listed
