Resident Evil is a survival horror series, with a major focus on both the survival and horror aspects. It’s what makes games in the series so compelling, with a massive emphasis on scaring the player through either anxiety or sheer fear of what’s up ahead. With the recent release of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, many are wondering if it’s for the faint of heart. Here’s whether the Resident Evil 4 Remake is scary.
Will the Resident Evil 4 Remake Scare You?
Whether the Resident Evil 4 Remake is scary entirely depends on what you define as scary. If you’re looking to be jumpscared at the most random moments by some incredibly creepy NPC or something along those lines, then that isn’t what you should expect from the remake (at least, not intentionally). If you’re looking for some incredibly disgusting enemies to face off against, on the other hand, then there’s plenty of that. Everything that can make you squeamish, from blood being coughed up to tentacles coming out of someone’s neck, is all there, and far more we won’t spoil.
It’s also scary in the sense of intensity. Resident Evil 4 Remake prides itself on putting you up against seemingly impossible odds and giving you the tools to take it head-on. That means you’ll be dealing with a lot of tense situations where your back is against the wall, and many enemies are closing in on your position. As you go through the game, this aspect becomes less prominent, but it’s something that those of us who have a hard time handling anxiety might consider too much.

If you’re debating picking up Resident Evil 4 Remake based on how much it might scare you, you should go in with the right idea of what kind of game this is. It’s not your iconic jumpscare game, but that doesn’t stop it from making you fearful of its enemies all the same. Just try not to die too much during it, as you may have with the Garrador enemy found later in the game. You can check out our guide, should you be struggling to defeat it.
