Years after the original Marvel’s Spider-Man was released in 2018, its sequel is here to grab some attention. With both Peter Parker and Miles Morales available to play, this begs the question: can you play Spider-Man 2 as a co-op game? Can one person play as Parker and the other as Morales? How will this swapping system work? First, let’s look at whether Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a multiplayer or single-player game.

Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 a Multiplayer Game?

No, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is not a multiplayer or co-op game. Instead, it will launch as a single-player game on October 20, 2023. Rather than having two people control Parker and Morales, you’ll swap between the two as you explore New York and fight enemies.

The official Insomniac X account was the first place to confirm Spider-Man 2 being a single-player game, where they replied to a comment asking if it would be a co-op game by stating it is an “epic single-player adventure.” There have been no updates or changes to this plan from Insomniac, so we can safely assume it’ll stay this way after it launches.

While a multiplayer co-op version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be interesting, especially as two people play as each Spider-Man, the decision makes sense when we look at past games, including its predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man. The 2018 prequel was also a single-player game featuring the original Spider-Man traveling around New York City and completing missions. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that its sequel would be single-player, even if its catchphrase is “Be Greater, Together.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be available on October 20, 2023, as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Be sure to check out all Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 pre-order editions listed if you’re still figuring out which version to buy before its release.
