As we’ve said many times previously at Prima Games, horror is in the eye of the beholder and is highly personal. What may not scare you could be terrifying to someone else and vice versa. However, examining the game through as objective a lens as possible, we can confirm that yes, Layers of Fear is scary. The game leans heavily on its frightening environments, which attempt to creep out players through the use of relatable sights and sounds, while also incorporating supernatural horror. Layers of Fear Developers Explain its Scariness

In Layers of Fear, before starting the game, or even reaching the main menu, there is a warning provided by the developers at Bloober Team, which reads as follows:

“Layers of Fear contains content that some players may find disturbing or
triggering, including depictions of aggression and violence, violent language,
domestic and child abuse/neglect, unsettling childhood imagery (such as
dismembered or possessed dolls, and disarrayed childhood belongings),
unsettling depictions of human-like figures (i.e.. mannequins), blood and
blood-like substances, fire, visual depictions of severe bodily injuries (i.e..
burns), alcohol and alcohol abuse, audible and visual hallucinations,
demonic imagery, rats, dogs, confined spaces and the sensation of being
trapped or chased, depression, self-harm, and suicide.

If you are sensitive to any of these themes or have a history of experiencing
similar difficulties in the past, please use caution when playing and consider
whether this game is appropriate for you. In the event that you find yourself
having a negative reaction to this content, please remember that you can
pause or stop the game at any point and take breaks as needed.”

If you are a horror fan, Layers of Fear will undeniably be up your alley, as in many ways, Bloober Team’s newest release is a textbook representation of the genre. However, if you can’t handle horror, or are disturbed by foreboding supernatural imagery, Layers of Fear is a bad gaming choice, and would not be a wise use of your hard-earned money.
