Sometimes, games like to branch out into new Horizons, if you catch my drift. Starting purely as a Motorsport simulation title on the original Xbox, Forza has since broken off into two distinctive paths: Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon. However, for fans that haven’t been keeping up on the latest in the franchise, is there anything that sets these two types of games apart besides possibly their locations? Let’s jump into our favorite rides and find out what each of these separate games has in store for us.
What Differences Are There Between Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon?
Admittedly, at first glance, it looks like the two games could be one and the same. Shiny, powerful vehicles tear tracks apart, kicking up pieces of dirt and tarmac as they expertly pivot around corners. But, in all reality, they are drastically different games that offer players of all skill levels plenty of enjoyment.
Forza Motorsport is more of a simulation-styled racing game, allowing players to zoom through detailed tracks against other players and AI racers, all fighting for first place. You’ll need to learn the ins and outs of all of your favorite vehicles if you’re hoping to succeed here, as the realistic physics will push you to your breaking point if you’re not paying attention to the smallest details while you’re racing. Granted, there are plenty of assists to make it more forgiving, but this will be the for those craving a more realistic approach to racing.
Forza Horizon, on the other side, is an arcade racer through and through. You’ll find plenty of vehicles shared between the two games, but that’s essentially where the similarities end. Horizon is for the thrill seekers, those looking to let go and have a blast tearing through jungles, water, and the occasional road as they look to build the ultimate festival in the city where the game takes place. Alongside the hijinx and shenanigans, you can get involved in barn finds and cross-country races with friends and other players. It’s a more social game, letting players put their wild side on display as they take a giant Hot Wheels loop-de-loop in the middle of the Mexican jungle.
At the end of the day, both games will have their dedicated fans who love one side of the coin more than the other. However, players are in for a treat no matter which game they pick up, with excellent simulation-styled racing or high-octane arcade action awaiting on either side of the field. Just ensure you know which one you’d be more likely to play before jumping in.
