Ubisoft’s new Avatar game has a lot of promise behind it, but some wonder if you can enjoy that promise with friends. Here’s whether Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has multiplayer of any kind.
Does Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Have Co-Op?
According to Ubisoft themselves, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will have co-op for two players. This means you’ll be able to bring a friend along for your journey into Pandora. There’s also no online PvP multiplayer aspect of it, so you won’t be having Na’vi versus RDA matchups going on any time soon.
Ubisoft hasn’t revealed much about how this co-op will work, but we do know that player progression will carry over if you’re synced up on story missions. So you’ll be able to keep some of your progress when playing with a friend. While we won’t know the full extent until the game is released, it’s at least good to know something will carry over.
As for why there isn’t more than two player co-op, the reasoning is fairly simple. Similar to Far Cry, the engine for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora simply isn’t built for that sort of gameplay. If there were four players in a single session, it would be an absolute steamroll through any sort of challenge and diminish the enjoyment considerably. PvP wouldn’t work either since the game isn’t built to be perfectly balanced or receive balance updates. Maybe a separate game in the series could explore that, but it would need to be built from the ground up.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora releases on December 7 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Amazon Luna. If you’re looking for more details before launch, check out our guide on the minimum and recommended system requirements for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
