Dairow Ven is one of the most mysterious NPCs you can stumble across. Here’s how to wake him in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Wake Dairow Ven in Baldur’s Gate 3
Let me preface this by saying Dairow Ven is likely part of a quest line in the Lower City that got scrapped. Even if you wake him, you won’t get any dialogue or interactions with him. He’ll either stand there or run away.
How to Find Diarow Ven in Baldur’s Gate 3
Dairow Ven is a Tiefling you can find in the Lower City Sewers. He’ll be just Northwest of the City Sewers waypoint. If you’ve already unlocked Flymm’s Cargo warehouse, you can head into the basement and down the dead end to make your way quickly to Dairow’s location.
Once you’ve found the tiefling, you’ll find that Empty Potions of Sleep surround him.
You can open his backpack to find a letter from Ninefingers, which notes that the Absolute’s army likely killed his wife and the refugees she was traveling with.
She offers to give Dairow a job in her gang, but it’s clear that Dairow opted for a different path. Fortunately, he’s not dead yet. And there’s only one way to wake him.
To wake Diarow Ven in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to cast Dominate Person on him, followed by Death Ward.
Death Ward is a Level 4 spell that can only be used by Clerics, making Shadowheart a good shout for this interaction. Dominate Person can be learned by Bards, Sorcerers, and Wizards, depending on their subclasses. I opted just to use a Scroll of Dominate Person.
Dominate Person will turn Dairow, who’s naturally hostile, into an ally. Once he’s an ally, you can cast the ally-exclusive spell Death Ward on him. Once Death Ward is on him, you can kill him. Death Ward will then resurrect him, and he won’t have the Unconscious status effect anymore.
If you’re not using turn-based mode, Dairow Ven will immediately run away. If you are using turn-based mode and wait for Dominate Person to end (or end it prematurely), he’ll stay in place. But you still won’t be able to interact with him.
Waking Dairow Ven in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a letdown, but perhaps they’ll fix him in a later patch.
