Iconic weapons will appear throughout your time playing Cyberpunk 2077, but their rarity is dependent on your level at the time you find one, so upgrades are important. The upgrade process for weapons has changed in Update 2.0, and I can give you a quick explanation of how to improve those Iconics. Here’s how to upgrade your weapons in Cyberpunk 2077.
How to Upgrade Iconic Weapons in Cyberpunk 2077
To upgrade weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, you need to open up the crafting menu, scroll over to the upgrades section, and then spend higher tier Crafting Components. You need to have the weapon you want to upgrade in your inventory, and it also needs to be Iconic. Any weapon that isn’t considered an Iconic, which always has yellow highlights, will be unavailable for upgrades.
Depending on the rarity of your weapon, or how far you want to upgrade, it can get fairly expensive. Each tier will require components from the current rarity to increase in quality. So if you have a Tier 3 pistol, you need to spend Tier 3 or Tier 4 components for an upgrade. The jump usually needs at least 75 Crafting Components. You can get more components by crafting those as well, looting enemies, or deconstructing weapons.
Once you have a Tier 5 Iconic weapon, you can still continue upgrading, but this is where it truly gets expensive. For the first upgrade after Tier 5, it’s going to cost at least 200 Legendary Crafting components. Even at level 46, that’s a majority of what I have, so I recommend stocking up on parts as you progress.
If you played Cyberpunk 2077 before Update 2.0, then you may be used to the Technical tree having access to crafting. That’s no longer the case and everyone can upgrade weapons whenever they want to. You just need to materials to do so and you’ll have a preem Iconic.
