In the new Dead Cells DLC, Return to Castlevania, there’s a heavy Symphony of the Night focus with respect to how the story is framed. There’s other nods too of course, but primarily you’ll be interacting with Richter and Alucard. And much like Symphony of the Night, there’s a little bonus that actually lets you play as Richter in a level set up just for him. Here’s how to unlock Richter Mode in Dead Cells Return to Castlevania.
How to Unlock Richter Mode in Dead Cells Return to Castlevania
First off, you actually have to get pretty far into the game and the DLC. You have to get past the first “half” of the new content, which means making your way through the Castle Outskirts and eventually fighting Death. Then, in a second run, you have to make your way to the true Dracula’s Castle by going through the Clock Tower. Once you’re there, make your way through the level and keep an eye out for what kinda looks like a person-sized hourglass. This is a “secret” door to one Richter Belmont.

Sometime between meeting you in the prison and forgetting to feed Maria’s cat, Richter gets captured by ol’ Dracula and stuffed away in a giant bird cage. But you can break him out if you find this room. He doesn’t really do anything for you in that moment, or for the rest of the run (he says hello right before the final fight though). You’re gonna have to start a third run, assuming you don’t fail this one.

Make your way back to the true Dracula’s Castle in your third run, and make it back to the hidden hourglass room. Approach the busted cage, and you’ll get a door prompt, which takes you directly to Richter Mode. This is a remixed version of Dracula’s Castle in which you play as Richter, who has significant gameplay changes compared to The Beheaded. If you can make it to the end, you’ll unlock Richter’s outfit for your troubles.
