How to Unlock Petrificus Totalus in Hogwarts Legacy

Petrificus Totalus is a spell you can use once you learn the Disillusionment Charm during the Secrets of the Restricted Section quest. You’ll unlock this invisibility spell, which you’ll use to sneak around the school’s library. However, Percival Rackham’s Trial quest is where you’ll initially hear about this power and how to wield it. At this point in the story, you’ll learn how to cast it and how powerful it is.

How to Cast Petrificus Totalus

Unlike many spells you assign to your spell diamond, Petrificus Totalus has two main requirements. The first and most important is for you to be invisible! Simply put, you can only cast Petrificus Totalus while using the Disillusionment Charm.

The second part is getting within range of an enemy to use the spell. It isn’t a long-range spell like many others; instead, it requires you to use your stealth skills to sneak up on the monster. This also means you have a chance of getting caught by surrounding enemies, which you’ll either have to run away from, fight or attempt to petrify.

Once you successfully use Petrificus Totalus on regular enemies, it’ll instantly kill them, making it one of the most powerful spells in the game. Just be careful since bosses and large monsters like trolls are unaffected!

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch through the official website. If you’re interested in learning more about the game, check out Where is Brood and Peck in Hogwarts Legacy and How to Defeat Inferius in Hogwarts Legacy.
