To use spells in Hogwarts Legacy, you have to assign them to a spell diamond or hotbar and use different buttons to activate them. The controls for this differ, depending on your platform: PC uses the 1-4 keys, Xbox has RT + A/B/Y/X, and PlayStation has R2 + its four main buttons. Using these combinations, you can cast spells to help you fight and solve puzzles.

Similarly, you’ll have to press that button again if you want to stop a spell you’re currently using. For example, if you’re on PC and Accio is assigned to the third slot, you’d press 3 again. This also works on your controller by pressing the same buttons you used to activate the spell!

While the spell often deactivates after completing an action, such as collecting field pages, doing this can stop it while doing puzzles. This also works for spells like Wingardium Leviosa, so you don’t flip blocks everywhere while trying to climb up a ledge.

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch through the official website.
