How to Rescue Volo in Baldur’s Gate 3

Inevitably reminds me of Wololo and Yolo.

There is nothing like a rescue mission in an RPG game that can be finished in a handful of different ways, am I right? In this article, we will go through the different ways you can save Volo from those pesky goblins in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Save Volo in BG3 from the Goblin Camp

Volo is being held captive at the goblin camp west-northwest of Blighted Village.

You will spot Volo holding a very bad performance on the square, followed by Gribbo becoming severely upset, knocking down Volo, and taking him to prison.

After going through the Heavy Oak Doors right next to a huge and vicious ogre called Guardian Gurgon (you really can’t miss him), you’ll reach the Shattered Sanctum. Upon entering a large chamber, you’ll need to climb right up the stairs and go through the Ornate Door. Here’s the map of the Goblin Camp:

Behind this door, you will see Gribbo (guarding Volo). Gribbo can be dealt with in a couple of ways:

  • Intimidation
  • Deception
  • Violence (be careful, though, because you might end up in a long and exhausting fight with little chance of success)

The most optimal way of rescuing Volo from Gribbo is a non-violent one as it is the least frustrating and complicated to handle. If you are successful with your roll, she will give you the key to Volo’s makeshift igloo-like jail cell, and you’ll be free to go after a short dialogue with Volo.

How to Save Volo in BG3 from the Steel Watch Foundry

Volo will need rescuing again later in your playthrough, this time from the Grey Harbour area around the Underdark. He will be tied to barrels that may or may not have gunpowder in them, so be careful about them taking damage. In most cases, this will be a fight you won’t be able to avoid since diplomatic solutions tend not to work with the people who captured Volo this time around.

To save Volo the second time, untie him from the cart on the rail he’s bound to. Hopefully, he doesn’t get captured for the third time because that would prompt us to update this guide.

Should You Rescue Volo in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Of course! You will inevitably get access to Volo’s Ersatz Eye (ersatz meaning replacement, substitute). Despite the way of getting it being insanely disgusting, Volo’s Ersatz Eye is useful as it grants you the ability to see invisible creatures around you.
