How to Open Locks in Hogwarts Legacy

Alohomora!

You’ll learn fairly early on in Hogwarts Legacy that there are locks all over the world that keep you away from chests and doors alike. Most games like this would have a lockpick, but they don’t exist in this world, and you’ll need another tool as a Witch or a Wizard to open locks.

Opening locks is both a mix of main story requirements and exploration that will span a few hours within Hogwarts Legacy, so you’ll have some work to do before you can start taking all the loot you want. Our guide will cover what spell you need to open locks and how you can upgrade it.

How to Pick Locks in Hogwarts Legacy

You need to learn the Alohomora spell to start opening locks in Hogwarts Legacy. To learn it for yourself, you simply need to progress through the main story, but you’ll need to clear nearly 20 different quests before getting there. That sounds like a lot, but they can be completed fairly fast. Once you have the spell, you can start walking up to low-level locks and picking them open.

After you get through that initial grind, you can begin the “Caretaker’s Lunar Lament” quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Completing the quest rewards you with the Alohomora spell that allows you to initiate a lockpicking mini-game on level 1 locks. All you need to do in the mini-game is align the red and green lights within the gears to open the lock.

There are level 2 and level 3 locks in Hogwarts Legacy as well, and you’ll need to upgrade your Alohomora spell to open these. Upgrades are achieved by finding Demiguise statues around the world. In total, players will end up needing around 30 statues to get all the upgrades needed to open locks.
