How to Make Hogwarts Legacy Run Better (Consoles and PC)

Depending on your chosen platform, you’ll have a certain amount of options you can change to better suit your needs. We’ll go over each of those settings for both platforms below:

Hogwarts Legacy – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

Next-gen consoles have a select few graphical presets they can choose from, each offering the player a different experience.

  • Fidelity Mode
    • Focuses on providing the best quality graphics that Hogwarts Legacy can offer, including more detailed textures, shaders, lighting, and more, at the cost of frame rate. Depending on the current moment, your average FPS will sit around 30 in Fidelity Mode.
  • Fidelity with Raytracing Mode
    • Essentially the same as Fidelity Mode, but with Raytracing technology tacked on. Raytracing tries to simulate the physical behavior of light, adding more immersion and prettiness to the game, but at the cost of a little more FPS than normal Fidelity Mode. If you don’t care about high FPS, this is the best that Hogwarts Legacy graphics can be.
  • Performance Mode
    • Focuses on running Hogwarts Legacy at the highest framerate possible. Though the graphics may not be as detailed as those in Fidelity Mode, the 60 fps experience is buttery smooth and, personally, I couldn’t imagine playing at any framerate lower than that. But hey, you do you.

There are two other modes available for those who have TVs or monitors with HDMI 2.1 available, those being Balanced Mode and HFR Performance Mode, but the majority of players will likely land on the three initial modes mentioned above.

In addition to the graphical modes above, there are a handful of other options that console users can change to tweak their game’s performance:

  • Cap Frame Rate – We recommend turning this off to ensure you’re getting the most FPS possible.
  • Motion Blur – We recommend turning this off to further help with framerate.
  • Depth of Field – We recommend keeping this on for a prettier and more immersive experience.
  • Chromatic Aberration – We recommend keeping this on for even more immersion.
  • Film Grain – Subjective, but turning this off may make for a clearer picture.

So, what is “better” in this instance? Well, it entirely depends on your preferences. For the smoothest experience possible, we’d recommend playing in Performance Mode, but if you want the best looking trip through the Wizarding World, Fidelity with Raytracing is your best bet.

Hogwarts Legacy – PC

PC players, naturally, have a much longer list of options to tweak on their end, making the possibilities for graphical improvements quite vast. The ideal scenario would be to run the best possible graphics with the highest possible framerate simultaneously and, depending on your PC’s hardware, you may just be able to do that.

In general, here’s a few options we’d recommend using, regardless of your hardware:

  • Window Mode – Fullscreen
  • Upscale Type – Nvidia DLSS / AMD FidelityFX 2
  • Nvidia Reflex Low Latency Mode – On
  • Upscale – Nvidia DLSS Ultra Quality
  • Framerate – 60 to 120 FPS
  • Motion Blur – Off
  • Depth of Field – On
  • Chromatic Aberration – On
  • Film Grain – Off

For the global quality settings (textures, effects, shadows, etc.), each one should be tailored to your hardware limitations. Depending on your hardware, it may be a good idea to switch everything to Low or Medium and bump up individual settings as much as your system can handle.
