How Do I Make Caviar in Stardew Valley?

Making Caviar is as easy as placing some Sturgeon in a Fish Pond and waiting for Sturgeon Roe to appear in the catchment. Once it does, collect it and place it in a Preserves Jar to create Caviar.

This is a very simple process that requires minimal effort from you once you have it all set up. But before you can start harvesting your Caviar, there is a little preparation you will need to do. First of all, you will require a Fish Pond. You can purchase these from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop for 5000g, 200x Stone, 5x Seaweed, and 5x Green Algae.

Make sure you clear a spot for it on your farm before you head over to Robin’s house to purchase a Fish Pond. If there is anything in the place you want your Fish Pond to go, like rocks, logs, or even crops, you won’t be able to place it. Once you have ordered your Fish Pond, Robin will start working on it the very next day. It will take two days to complete.

Now that you have a Fish Pond ready and waiting, you will need a Sturgeon to put inside it. You can catch Sturgeon during Winter and Spring at the Mountain Lake. They are available in any weather conditions but are only active between the hours of 6 AM to 7 PM. Sturgeon is on the rarer side, but if you keep searching in the Mountain Pond, you are sure to find one eventually.

If you’re not having any luck at the Mountain Lake, you can also purchase one from Krobus’s store for 200g on Wednesdays or at the Traveling Cart for anywhere between 600g – 1000g. If you’re lucky, you may also be given a Sturgeon as a present from a Cat you have max hearts with.

Once you have your Sturgeon ready to go, simply throw it in your Fish Pond and check the catchment every few days to harvest your Roe!

How to Make Sturgeon Roe Worth Even More Money in Stardew Valley

Sturgeon Roe sells for 130g, which isn’t a bad price for a passive item. Fish Ponds don’t require any energy whatsoever to maintain. They don’t need to be watered like your crops do, and you don’t even need to feed the fish. The only time a Fish Pond might need something from you is when the fish ask for a certain item. If you provide the item, the fish population will increase, so you will have more Sturgeon to create Sturgeon Roe for you, but even just one fish is enough to get your hands on its Roe.

It’s possibly the fanciest product in Stardew Valley!

Sturgeon Roe is decent, but it becomes far more lucrative when you place it in a Preserves Jar to turn it into Caviar. Caviar can be sold for 500g or 700g with the Artisan profession. This is a brilliant profit and is why Sturgeon are at the top spot for the best fish to have in your Fish Pond! All you need to age Caviar is a Preserves Jar, which you can craft using 50x Wood, 40x Stone, and 8x Coal. Simply place your Sturgeon Roe in a Preserves Jar and wait a few days until your Caviar is ready.
