How to Make a Bitter Sandwich in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk

As you knock out those BBQ’s, it’s possible you’ll get the task to create a Bitter Sandwich. And while Bitter Herba Mystica is obviously the go to, you don’t have to waste this premium ingredient just for this quest. There are plenty of other options that will help you construct the bitterest of bitter sandwiches for cheap.

Here are all the bitter ingredients in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:

  • Lettuce (yes, really)
  • Cucumber
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Yellow Bell Pepper
  • Smoked Fillet
  • Fried Fillet
  • Watercress
  • Basil

Apparently, vegetables are bitter. Who knew! But when it comes to condiments, there are no particularly bitter options. Because so many of these ingredients are vegetables, Vinegar is a good option, and its sour notes won’t take away from the overall end flavor.

You’ll need to use more than three ingredients to make a bitter sandwich, and you’ll know you’ve succeeded once you’ve gotten the odd brown screen when your trainer munches on your creation. With that sandwich out of the way, you’ll get 100+ BBQ points.

But if you want to get Bitter Herba Mystica in the Indigo Disk, a good way to do that is through Special Coach meetings.

You can get a Special Coach (a trainer from Paldea) to come to Blueberry Academy after the game has ended. Doing so will cost 200 BP. If you choose to bring Larry over and defeat him in battle, he’ll give you Bitter Herba Mystica as a reward. I feel bad for bringing him over in the first place, but it’s well worth it for those premium ingredients.

Sorry, Larry!
