It’s an exhausting existence when you mine rocks, chop trees, and slay monsters from sunrise to sunset, and sometimes you need a spot to kick back and stop all the Phantoms from spawning. We’ll get to the last part in a bit. Crafting a Bed in Minecraft is essential for surviving through your journey, and you won’t get very far without a comfy place to snuggle up at night. How to Make a Bed in Minecraft

The primary purpose of Beds in Minecraft is their function as a respawn point. After placing a bed in the Overworld, players can interact with them to set a respawn point in the event they die. Destroying or removing a bed will reset the player’s spawn back to the default spawn location for their world, so make sure to interact with them if you do a little redecorating.

To craft a Bed, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 3 Wool
  • 3 Wooden Planks

Wool can be found in Villages, but the most efficient way to obtain it is by using Shears on an adult Sheep, which will yield one to three pieces. Killing a Sheep will sometimes drop one Wool, but you’d have to be an absolute monster to do such a thing.

Wooden Planks are crafted by simply placing any type of raw wood anywhere in your crafting window.

Arrange the materials as shown above, with the three wool in a horizontal line and the three wooden planks underneath them. This crafting recipe yields one Bed, and using colored pieces of wool will result in a matching colored bed.

Once placed, interacting with the bed will set the player’s spawn point. However, beds can also be used to quickly sleep through the night or through a thunderstorm. You won’t be able to sleep in a bed if any monsters are nearby, and sleeping through the night will require all players to rest in their own beds in a multiplayer game.

Additionally, not sleeping in a bed for three or more in-game days will cause Phantoms to spawn and attack you at night, which are quite possibly the most annoying creatures in Minecraft. Getting a good night’s rest will shoo them away for a bit, so make sure to get some sleep every once in a while.

Sleeping in a bed is only recommended in the Overworld, and should never be used in the Nether or the End. Seriously, we warned you.
