Over the years of playing The Sims, one thing has stayed consistent: child mechanics. Your Sim engages in some fun times with another, and, after some time, you find out one of them is pregnant and expecting a child! However, introducing infants in The Sims 4 also came with a nice little perk of including surrogacy in the form of “Science Babies”. If you’d like to learn more, continue reading to discover how to have a Science Baby in The Sims 4.
How to Have a Science Baby in The Sims 4
When thinking about having a baby in The Sims, you may imagine two Sims getting together, waiting a few weeks for your pregnant Sim to finish their three trimesters and, after some time, a newborn appears. With Science Babies, you avoid the first two steps entirely. It is reminiscent of adoption in its speed but has an entirely different process.
To have a Science Baby in The Sims 4, you’ll have to head into your ingame cellphone and go into the Home menu. You’ll find two options from here: “Have Science Baby as Single Parent” and “Have Science Baby with”, followed by a list of options. Whether or not you go solo is entirely up to you!

One of the perks of going for the Science Baby route is that you can mix genetics with your and potentially a second Sim. This second Sim can be a romantic partner, but you can also go a platonic route. The only downside is you have to pay a 1200 Simoleon fee.
Once you begin the Science Baby process, your Sim will travel out of the world and briefly stay away from the household until you have the child. Afterwards, the newborn will appear in your home in a bassinet, ready for you to care for and love.
The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 through the official website. If you’d like to learn more about the game, check out The Sims 4 Infant and Toddler Differences Explained.
