How to Drink Water in Sons of the Forest

To get water in Sons of the Forest, simply find the nearest river on your GPS by pressing M. If you are at the start of the game, you should see a river when looking inland. You can drink there.

Once you’ve made it to a river, look at the water and press E to drink it.

The game wouldn’t let me drink while holding a spear, so try equipping a different item and drinking instead. Drinking out of a river twice will completely fill up your thirst bar. You can also find and consume a white plant called Yarrow to fill up your thirst bar, which is very helpful when on inland adventures.

Other berries such as Blueberries, Blackberries and Salmonberries will also quench your thirst, albeit very slowly.

These are the best ways to drink water in the early-game of Sons of the Forest. Eventually you will be able to filter water, which makes the process much smoother. For now, you are advised to shelter near a river if you want a quick and easy source of water.

Now that you know how to get water in Sons of the Forest, it’s time to get out there and find a river.
